NEET UG 2025 Counselling: Security Deposit

Security Deposit 2025

Hi students, welcome to Order Gen. My name is Kavita, and I am a counselling expert. NEET 2025 result has come, and on this bog, on education, you guys must be read a lot of counselling blogs.

Common Query About Security Deposit

Now, We are getting a very important query in the comment box:
“Ma’am, if we participate in NEET 2025 counselling, do we have to pay a security amount?”
Whether it’s MCC, state quota, or AYUSH — when will we get it back? From whom? Under what conditions?
What are the mistakes due to which we won’t get our refund? Also, what are the other mistakes we must avoid during counselling?

Registration Fee vs Security Deposit

Now friend, when we start counselling, we register. The registration fee — which is non-refundable — is clearly mentioned as such. But the security amount is refundable. Still, many students don’t get their amount back.

Even if a refund happens, students don’t know:

  • When it will happen
  • How it will happen
  • What details need to be sent

These are major concerns, especially for parents who are investing the money.

MCC Security Deposit Explained

When we talk about security deposit in MCC counselling:

  • For government medical colleges: ₹10,000
  • For deemed universities: ₹2,00,000

Do You Pay Both Security Deposits?

If a student is participating in both deemed and government college counselling, will they have to pay both deposits? No. You only pay the higher amount — ₹2,00,000.

Refund of Security Deposit — Government College Admission

If you pay ₹2,00,000 and get a government college seat, the excess amount is not adjusted — but it will be refunded.

If you are not allotted any college in any round, your security deposit will also be refunded.

Refund Process

After counselling ends, a notice is issued asking for:

  • Cancelled cheque copy or
  • Bank passbook copy

This is so that the refund can be processed directly into your bank account. This is the same for MCC, state quota, and AYUSH counselling.

When Will Security Deposit NOT Be Refunded — MCC

In MCC:

  • If you’re allotted a college in Round 2 and you do not join, your security deposit is forfeited.
  • Same applies for Round 3.
  • If allotted a college in Stray Vacancy Round and you do not join, your deposit is gone.
  • Plus, you are debarred from giving NEET next year.

AYUSH Counselling Rules

In AYUSH counselling (for BAMS, BHMS, BUMS):

  • In Round 2, if you don’t join the allotted college, your security deposit is not refunded.
  • In Round 3, same condition applies.
  • In Stray Vacancy Round, if you don’t join the allotted college, your deposit is forfeited and you’re debarred from next year’s AYUSH counselling.

State Counselling Rules — Example: Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu’s latest notification says:

  • If a student is allotted a seat in Stray Round and doesn’t take it, the security deposit is not refunded.
  • The student cannot participate in Tamil Nadu counselling next year, even if they can take NEET or AIQ counselling.

Tamil Nadu Specifics — Discontinuation Fee

If you don’t join college after Round 3, you lose your:

  • Security deposit
  • Have to pay a discontinuation fee
  • Have to pay tuition fee

This is mentioned clearly in the Tamil Nadu brochure. Students from Tamil Nadu should definitely check the detailed blog breakdown of that brochure on this blog.

Round 2 — Free Exit Confusion

In Tamil Nadu:

  • Free exit is allowed in Round 2
  • But if you join a college and then apply for upgradation in Round 3 without resigning properly (with relieving letter), you may be stuck with your Round 2 seat
  • If you fail to act in the 2-day window provided, you may lose your deposit and still need to pay discontinuation charges

All the Best

All the best and see you soon!
